Sorted is easily one of my favourite shows on YouTube, with a fantastic channel, great content, great hosts but they put a lot of love into their content. I was delighted to have Ben on the show and he was kind enough to provide listeners of NLG a gift too:

No pressures, cancel any time… but hopefully for just £1.25 (cost of half a coffee!) a week NLG listeners will find value in the weekly podcast, the digital access to the 6+ exclusive cookbooks, the Eat app and, probably of MOST value… the weekly recipe Packs via the app. You should take this offer up just now whilst it’s available as I already have!

KEY POINTS TO REFLECT ON

In this interview, a lot of jewels of self-improvement are discussed. Some of these and their associated thoughts include:

  • Friendship is at the core of everything that happens at Sorted – how can you build your own passion through your friendship, how can you develop your friendships by undertaking an activity
  • It is the fear of the unknown that stops most men from trying to improve their skills or try something new. Like Ben says, overcoming this my be scary but what opportunities it would allow afterwards, is worth the initial fear of stepping up and going for.
  • When cooking, look for ways you can batch process tasks, and multi task. What do you need to heat up, what can be done in-between to speed things up. Rather than dive straight into the recipe, look ahead and plan things out like a chef … maybe not with a gantt chart like Ben 🙂
  • Pasta and rice dishes aren’t great for long storage in the fridge but dishes with a lot of combined and blended together spices that are cooked off age better in the fridge – dishes like curries and chillis etc.
  • Food is a global language, like love. You can always heal, fix, unite, wow and so much more with food.
  • You can get by with the basic tools and create so many dishes – no need to buy fancy gadgets and gizmos
  • There are key core French techniques that can be learnt and then adapted to make incredible dishes.
  • How the true art of seasoning is to find a balance in a dish
  • Never be afraid to be open, honest and transparent with friends, true friends will never object to helping one another out
  • You can use friendly rivalry with friends to help push one another in learning and developing skills of all kinds
  • Never be afraid to ask, ask locals, ask chefs or butchers or the waiter or whoever, ask for advice on what to buy, how to cook it, how to use it, what to add to it etc. Tap into knowledge of people more experienced and reap the benefits.
  • Be willing to give cooking a go, be willing to give spices a go, herbs a go, different kinds of meat or meatless a go and so on. You never know the true joys that you might discover by giving things a shot.

Ben, Ben, Ben!
