KEY POINTS TO REFLECT ON

In this interview, a lot of jewels of self-improvement are discussed. Some of these and their associated thoughts include:

  •  Tragedy, at any age is a horrible thing, however, you can make something good from it. Cody used his as motivation to achieve what others doubted he could
  • What is your Why? Why are you doing what you are doing? Establish what your Why is and the What and How become much easier and help you create a mission in your life.
  • Don’t judge others without understanding, people can act up for many reasons, you never knew what others are dealing with in their life, so don’t judge until you know the true story.
  • It doesn’t matter how successful you become, you will always face challenges. Challenges will always exist no matter where you are in life, so why not reach for the stars if you will always need to deal with challenges.
  • Asking for help is not a weakness, it is a sign of strength that you can admit that something is wrong and look for help. Cody is seeing benefit from therapy and EMDR
  • Anyone can start a business. The success opportunities are based on the idea and the effort put into it. Facebook, Instagram etc all started as just ideas in someone else’s head. What is stopping you from trying? Money? Businesses can be started on almost no costs. Time? You can build up a side business while working full time if you schedule work time around your other responsibilities. Fear? Everyone is terrified, those people who succeed just learn what fear is, a reminder that this could go wrong and wanting to keep you safe – to overcome this, figure out safe guards you can put in – eg financial limits, a timeframe to try it and close it if not working, say a year, and so on. Fear is a good thing, it stops you doing really stupid shit, it should not stop you from chasing your dreams though.
  • Being successful is not always the answer to your problems, it can create a whole new range of problems and hassle. Making money should not be your only goal, you need to figure out your Why in life and you will work towards your own true grade of success
  • Building things take time, stop panic changing, you need to stay on the same path until you are sure, not impulse jumping off. Give a new plan at least six months to a year before you will have the needed data to really know if it will work or not.
  • True fulfillment comes from doing what you truly want to do, not what society, your family or others tell you it is.
  • Where you start is not where you must stay – you decide what you do and where you go in life, you just need to put in the needed work. Just because you are born poor etc, doesn’t mean you need to stay there – figure out what you want and work for it.
  • You need to decide the right path for you. There is a wealth of information and courses available to learn the things you need to succeed. Some need schooling, others have the time better spent just starting a business etc and working, it really depends on you and your learning style.
  • We all have the same 24 hours … what are you doing with yours? We all have the same time, all that really matters is what you do in it.
  • Nothing will be handed to you. Time will pass regardless. Why not use it, turn off the TV and chase your dreams, build your business, give it a try. You can always go back to a 9-5 but if you truly believe in something, then go for it. We only have a limited time in the world, use yours to the max and see what you can achieve.

What are you looking at?

Cody’s story offers all the components you’d expect from the success story of a young entrepreneur with Aspergers—motivation, drive, perseverance, focus, and passion. You might call it a rags-to-riches tale, and you wouldn’t be wrong. But that here-to-there narrative is only the top layer. Cody’s story unfolds to reveal a narrative that is more complicated and yet simpler, more central, to the human experience. What remains is the story of a boy, burdened like all of us with deep wounds and great gifts, searching for a purpose. What remains is a story that will inspire readers to find their true calling and work like hell to achieve their dreams.

Every significant choice, every important decision we make, is determined by our perception of time. This is the most influential force in our lives, yet we are virtually unaware of it. In this fascinating book, the award-winning past president of the American Psychological Association, Philip Zimbardo, and his co-author, John Boyd, show how:

– the way you perceive time is as unique as your fingerprints
– these individual time perspectives shape your life, and the world around you
– you can change the way you perceive time, so you get the most out of every minute
– if you don’t, the power of time in the modern world is so immense that it will take its toll on you

The Time Paradox is a highly readable, stimulating look at a subject that absorbs us all.

About the Author
I’m a podcaster who interviews great examples of people to discuss and highlight the methods, hacks, tips and procedures you can use in your own life to help you develop and better your life. I would definitely not consider myself an expert, so to improve, I ask them and action it in my own life! My personal journey has been marked by awkwardness and awesomeness, OCD and ‘OMG’. I have suffered with depression, shyness, unhappiness and lack of focus and motivation so I know what’s it like to feel lost and hopeless. Back then, I wished I had a podcast to listen to and find actual fixes and concrete action steps and not just unobtainable suggestions and promotion of their products but couldn’t find it … so I made my own!
