Giving Something Back

Strength that only points inward eventually collapses.

As Next Level Guy has grown, I’ve wanted to make sure it doesn’t just focus on self-development, but also on contribution — quietly, realistically, and without making a show of it.

For a long time, giving back wasn’t something I thought much about. I was focused on myself, my problems, and getting through my own mess. As I’ve steadied over the years, it’s become obvious that supporting others — whether with time, skills, or money — isn’t about being virtuous. It’s about perspective.

Giving back has a way of pulling you out of your own head. It reminds you that strength isn’t just what you build for yourself, but what you’re able to offer once you’re on steadier ground.

That doesn’t have to mean donations alone. It can be:

  • volunteering time

  • sharing a skill

  • supporting a local group

  • helping someone through a rough patch

Contribution looks different at different stages of life.

Below are a small number of charities and causes I respect and believe are doing meaningful work. They’re here as options — not obligations.

If you’re in a position to support something like this, I’d encourage you to look into them directly and decide what feels right for you.

Andy Man’s Club is a charity whose mission, put simply, is to prevent other families from going through the heartache and grief caused by suicide, by encouraging men to speak openly about their issues.

We aim to achieve this through our Monday night talking groups, and through the power of awareness, sharing stories and sharing experiences.

Homeless Project Scotland is a Homeless Charity in Scotland,  founded in order to help the homeless and vulnerable in Scotland.

Lendwithcare is a microfinance lending website from the development charity CARE International UK. Launched in September 2010, it allows individuals and groups to make small loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries, and help them work their way out of poverty

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity. We provide frontline nursing and hospice care, a free support line and a wealth of information and support on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement.

Scottish SPCA is Scotland’s animal welfare charity, who’ve been on-hand to protect animals and prevent cruelty for 180 years. Over almost two centuries, we’ve grown to become a national charity which celebrates the strength of the human-animal bond and enriches the lives of animals and people.

We are a completely separate charity from the RSPCA, which helps animals in England and Wales.

The Trussell Trust has a vision for a future without the need for food banks.

They support a nationwide network of food banks and together we provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

Volunteer Scotland exist to help you make a difference through volunteering.

Scotland, more than ever, needs us all to share in the nation’s common good. The potential to bring out the best in us has never been better and we here to support you in all areas of volunteering.

World Central Kitchen is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. We build resilient food systems with locally led solutions.

World Central Kitchen is a not-for-profit non-governmental organization devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters. Founded in 2010 by celebrity chef José Andrés, the organization prepared food in Haiti following its devastating earthquake.
