KEY POINTS & LINKS

Top Tier Talent utilise a lot of great mindsets, skill sets, training hacks, and approaches to life – these are some of the key points from this interview  think you should pay attention to:
    • You should try a range of different sports and interests when you are younger, do not limit yourself and you’d be surprised at the benefit of the cross-training will have on your skills.
    • You need to build partnerships with team mates off the pitch as much as on the pitch. Spend time building a bond and trust with one another, and the understanding of one another will show up when you compete.
    • Top tier talent like the Klingers focus on their weaknesses as much as their strengths and will cover the entire spectrum of performance such as mobility, agility, speed, strength etc.
    • Be creative and your actual weird self on social media, the Klingers are their fantastic self on their social media, the girls are themselves all the time. Have fun, enjoy your training, mix things up and be creative, let your personality out in your training and let it evolve your skills.
    • Enjoy the journey of your training and hobby rather than just the destination or the end goal. BUT you need to have a goal, a focus on to drive you on, to push you to get out of bed and train when sore or struggling, to want to put in the extra work AND enjoy it!
    • Having a strong mindset can be the difference between success or not. The Klingers mentioned how important the mental side of sport is and how a mindset coach is really helping their progression. They use a weekly training session with their coach, to work on visualizing success, work on eliminating fears or struggles and building a stronger bond with one another. What could a mindset coach do for your ability?
    • Mindset training is built little by little, and you need to work on it weekly.
    • The Klingers appreciate losses, they use it to learn from what went wrong, and take the time they need to be annoyed, then accept it and move on from it. They don’t sulk or let it eat them up, they learn from it and move on.
    • The sisters utilize visualization training, where they mentally rep the movements and skills they will be doing. There have been studies that show that the mind cannot tell between mental and physical reps that much, so mental reps can help you learn and build in a skill more than the time you have on the court.
    • The Klingers are sisters, they’ve known each other their whole life, but they still work on their team work, they focus on their relationships and team-work as much as their skills.
  • The sisters use visualization training on and off season, so the skills they need are built into their mindset and processes before they need them on the competition circuit. You will always fall back to the highest level of your training when things get tough, put in the work to build the reps and knowledge so that when the S hits the fan, you know you  can fall back on your training and have a good chance of successes instead of falling back on your fear and lose.
  • You need to recover from the training that you do. You need a good balance between training and recovery.
  • There are lots of recovery methods available. The sisters use a variety of different methods to help their bodies recover, they have found what works for them. Like they say, trial what works for you and find the best options. However you should focus on sleep, hydration and eating properly and see a lot of benefit.
  • Remember you are your own brand. What you do in training, in interviews, at work etc, all build your brand. Use social media, interviews etc to inspire others, and motivate. Encourage others, bring them into your mindset, your mission and your goals and get them involved. People who are emotionally invested in you will go the distance with you.
  • You are the average of the five people that you hang around with. Don’t hang around with ten cent mindset people  or you’ll have one too, find your tribe and the people who will push you and support you, they are the people you want in your life.
  • Finding sponsorship and financial aid will be really hard and you may want to give up. The sisters utilize good networking, and promotion of their brand, to encourage companies etc to help out you. Google for governing bodies that offer grants and build a good social media following, as companies etc will check these out when deciding on who to work for, and will look for people who can reach a lot of people. Be yourself, be unique.
  • Training is the key to your success but you need to have fun and be creative. The sisters use #WeirdWorkoutWednesday to push themselves, to have fun, learn new skills and have a break and a challenge away from the pressures of the sport. Be weird and watch your creativity and thinking become a lot better!
  • Use travel and new opportunities as a chance to learn, and grow as a person. You might find out about new cultures, new challenges, new ways to do things etc, and it might open up your mindset and skills in a way you never thought possible.
  • ‘That’ Samba video can be found here (sorry girls!)
  • The girls found their passion, you can too. Try new things, be creative, be weird, try this and that and see what clicks. Find your passion, and explore, live your passion, get excited about it everyday and live your passion and you’ll be amazed at where it might take you!

About the Author
I’m a podcaster who interviews great examples of people to discuss and highlight the methods, hacks, tips and procedures you can use in your own life to help you develop and better your life. I would definitely not consider myself an expert, so to improve, I ask them and action it in my own life! My personal journey has been marked by awkwardness and awesomeness, OCD and ‘OMG’. I have suffered with depression, shyness, unhappiness and lack of focus and motivation so I know what’s it like to feel lost and hopeless. Back then, I wished I had a podcast to listen to and find actual fixes and concrete action steps and not just unobtainable suggestions and promotion of their products but couldn’t find it … so I made my own!
