WHAT WE COVER

In this interview, we discuss gems like:

  • The value of BJJ and team games like rugby, games that allow you to be physical and primal
  • The need for physicality for modern day men and the problems it causes when it is missing in people’s life
  • Where are modern day men going wrong in his opinion
  •  The fallacy of chasing perfection
  • The problem that lack of discipline in the family home is causing
  • How does the Army shape kids who come from troubled backgrounds and turn them into good men.
  • Is National Service a good idea?
  • The truth about criticism … in our opinion
  • How do you build the brotherhood you get in the army in modern society?
  • Does time spent overseas change your viewpoint towards the enemy?
  • How did he transition from the army and how did he deal with the struggles that came from this time?
  • His struggles with PTSD and how anyone struggling can deal with the symptoms and try and resolve the problem and find peace
  • Where is the Army failing it’s employees as they transition to normal life
  • Did writing about his experiences help him accept and come to peace with his time in the military and combat?
  • Has his podcast helped him open up about his feelings and be able to deal with them?

SOME THINGS TO REFLECT ON

In this interview, a lot of jewels of self-improvement are discussed. Some of these and their associated thoughts include:

  • PTSD and Depression are serious issues. If you feel they are overtaking you, please seek help. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, it is not a sign of weakness. Realising you need help and asking for it, is the strongest and best thing you will ever do.
  • There is nothing wrong with being physical with another men, is it acceptable to hug, cuddle and embrace another male, regardless of your sexuality. Show emotion to the people you love, you never know what may happen in life, show the people in your world what they mean to you while you still can.
  • You can never be perfect, try your best and if you don’t have a great session, see if you need to amend your performance effort or put in additional work to fix things. Don’t destroy yourself with self-talk, just accept the lackluster session and look for a remedy to fix it.
  • It is silly to compare yourself to others as usually these are not logical or fair comparison to make. Gez would compare himself as a writer against friends who were professional athletes and beat himself up about it. The only person you should compete against is the one you see in the mirror. You should aim to be better each new day compared to the last.
  • You can come from a bad upbringing but you can change your life around.
  • The army is always a reflection of today’s society“.
  • If you want something, work your arse off to get it. Society does not owe you anything. You want something, work for it.
  • Your job does not define you, what you do pays your bills and how you spend most of your time. How you treat people and what you do to make the world and others better is what will define you.
  • We need to put something in place to support ourselves when we leave
  • You sometimes just need to do things as they are fund and make you smile

About the Author
I’m a podcaster who interviews great examples of people to discuss and highlight the methods, hacks, tips and procedures you can use in your own life to help you develop and better your life. I would definitely not consider myself an expert, so to improve, I ask them and action it in my own life! My personal journey has been marked by awkwardness and awesomeness, OCD and ‘OMG’. I have suffered with depression, shyness, unhappiness and lack of focus and motivation so I know what’s it like to feel lost and hopeless. Back then, I wished I had a podcast to listen to and find actual fixes and concrete action steps and not just unobtainable suggestions and promotion of their products but couldn’t find it … so I made my own!
