THE BASICS

Today’s guest is Josh Tyler, who is a co-founder of the phenomenal Savage Gentlemen website, whose goal is to be a source of inspiration and guidance for the modern male, and offer high quality goods to accommodate both the savage and the gentleman. Josh heads up the business development and creative side. As a professional fighter and outdoorsman, Josh falls more on the savage side but can still be a gentleman if need be.

Though he is much more comfortable applying his craft in the cage than in a suit, he still appreciates a nice glass of Scotch and the value of a well kempt beard. In his spare time, you can find Josh training at the gym, practicing his survival skills in the wild, or just enjoying some down time with his wife and kids.

In this interview we discuss his story, Savage Gentlemen, the internal conflict going on inside every man, masculinity, fatherhood, product development and how to balance your own Savage and Gentlemen side to succeed in life.

SOME THINGS TO REFLECT ON

In this interview, a lot of jewels of self-improvement are discussed. Some of these and their associated thoughts include:

  • Stop trying show you are living this amazing life online, instead switch off and just go and live it, live it for yourself, no one. The only person you need to be better than is the person you were yesterday.
  • Men are born with a primitive desire to achieve, to push and compete with others
  • If you only allow one side of you to thrive, you will not be as successful as possible in life, you need to work on and develop both sides to form the whole, you need both like ying and yang to succeed
  • You do not need and will rarely get approval from others on how you live your life, you decide and go for it, live your life, not for likes but for what you can achieve in it
  • Does the achievements in your life make you happy? You can tell you are making progress by the level of joy you receive by what you are doing in life
  • [bctt tweet=”What do you want your kids to remember about you as a man and as a person?, what example and memories and inspiration do you want to be for them? What influence will you be in who they become?”]
  • It is our actions and choices that show who we are, not what we claim to be, it is what someone actually does that shows the true them, don’t promise; deliver!
  • The better the person you become, the more of an impact you can have on the people around you
  • We as men have the capability to help and improve others, we can help raise one another to become better in life, and inspire, encourage and motivate others in return

About the Author
I’m a podcaster who interviews great examples of people to discuss and highlight the methods, hacks, tips and procedures you can use in your own life to help you develop and better your life. I would definitely not consider myself an expert, so to improve, I ask them and action it in my own life! My personal journey has been marked by awkwardness and awesomeness, OCD and ‘OMG’. I have suffered with depression, shyness, unhappiness and lack of focus and motivation so I know what’s it like to feel lost and hopeless. Back then, I wished I had a podcast to listen to and find actual fixes and concrete action steps and not just unobtainable suggestions and promotion of their products but couldn’t find it … so I made my own!
