KEY POINTS TO REFLECT ON & LINKS MENTIONED

In this interview, a lot of jewels of self-improvement are discussed. Some of these include:

  • The focus the DEA has on their students being the best, the bar of quality that students need to maintain above, and the demands of consistent training are something you should encourage in your own life. Be consistently ready for action and not needing time to get ready, as life doesn’t wait.
  • Fear will always be there, you will always feel it. However, it is just a feeling, you choose how you respond to it. Learn how to feel it and move, feel it and keep your head. It’ll always be there but as you learn to act on the event during the feeling, it will eventually become a noise you can switch on and off when the mission is more important than the feeling.
  • Ensure you have standards in your training, bench marks you need to meet or be above as you fall to the highest level of your training, you do not rise to the event. Be ensuring your are ready and training the necessary skill set, fitness and intelligence means that when an incident happens, you fall to your training limit and if you work hard, your limit will make your performance more than enough.
  • People who make an effort to work with people of another culture will find they get along, those who go in with an attitude will cause conflict with new people or other cultures. Go into all interactions with an open approach, aim to fit in, to learn about others and be part of the culture and you will learn and grow as a person far more than being a confrontational asshole.
  • Steve’s story of what inspired him to enter law enforcement, is a great example of how one interaction can shape someone’s life, and motivate them on their path. Please consider how you interact with your family, nephews, students etc, look at how you speak, inspire, and motivate others. Be the person that they look up to, follow in their footsteps or become better people from your example to them.
  •  Try and find a job that you love and it will feel never feel like work.
  • Not everything you see on TV is true, you need to learn to use critical thinking skills to ascertain what is true and whats not.

What you’ll find there

For the first time, legendary DEA operatives Steve Murphy and Javier F. Peña tell the true story of how they helped put an end to one of the world’s most infamous narco-terrorists in Manhunters: How We Took Down Pablo Escobar–the subject of the hit Netflix series, Narcos.

Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar’s brutal Medellín Cartel was responsible for trafficking tons of cocaine to North America and Europe in the 1980s and ’90s. The nation became a warzone as his sicarios mercilessly murdered thousands of people–competitors, police, and civilians–to ensure he remained Colombia’s reigning kingpin.

Manhunters presents Steve and Javier’s history in law enforcement from their rigorous physical training and their early DEA assignments in Miami and Austin to the Escobar mission in Medellin, Colombia–living far from home and serving as frontline soldiers in the never ending war on drugs that continues to devastate America.

About the Author
I’m a podcaster who interviews great examples of people to discuss and highlight the methods, hacks, tips and procedures you can use in your own life to help you develop and better your life. I would definitely not consider myself an expert, so to improve, I ask them and action it in my own life! My personal journey has been marked by awkwardness and awesomeness, OCD and ‘OMG’. I have suffered with depression, shyness, unhappiness and lack of focus and motivation so I know what’s it like to feel lost and hopeless. Back then, I wished I had a podcast to listen to and find actual fixes and concrete action steps and not just unobtainable suggestions and promotion of their products but couldn’t find it … so I made my own!
